Full-bodied, lush, and sumptuous. The mouthfeel is velvety in texture and layered with fruit, chocolate, and spice. Delicious.

The Shiraz and Viognier were handpicked from the Hobbs Estate vineyard at optimal sugar, tannin and acid ripeness. The grapes were co-fermented in small batches, hand plunged and monitored closely to ensure perfect balance and integration. Once fermentation was finished, the wine was pressed off the skins into new French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and maturation.

A co-fermented blend of shiraz and viognier from the Hobbs estate in Flaxman Valley. A bright, vibrant crimson wine, the viognier component showing itself with some apricot kernel and blossom top notes flitting above the ripe, spicy satsuma plum and blue fruits. It's sleek and true with ripe fruit, that viognier lifting things up again on the palate, with powdery tannin and a touch of morello cherry to the finish.

The 2021 Tango Shiraz Viognier is aromatically exuberant thanks to the coiled, springy Viognier florals. Furry apricot skin blows out of the glass and infuses the senses and pervades the palate. In the mouth, the wine is concentrated, earthy (tannins), polished (fruit) and very long through the finish. This is a great wine; it's huge, layered and complex. It's not shy; in fact, it's the opposite, but the balance is admirable, which is key to my enjoyment. 14.7% alcohol, sealed under Diam and wax.

Just 130 dozen made of this delicious Rhone style red, Shiraz with a dollop of Viognier. The fruit all hails from the Hobbs own vineyard and the grapes were co-fermented. Maturation was in new French oak. Dark maroon in colour, this is a balanced and yet powerful style with serious concentration. Warm earth, plums, black fruits, spices and bergamot. There is focus, balance and, even with the intensity, a little elegance here. A very long finish with ever-so-fine tannins too. This is one of the very best examples of the Shiraz Viognier blend one will find from this country. Drink for eight to ten years.
